Tony and Ayo Jones are the founders of Expat Life Ghana and the hosts of the Ghana Relocation Summit. They moved their family from Texas to Accra five years ago. Everything they offer is built from that lived experience.
Five years ago we were sitting in our living room in Texas, completely exhausted. We had done everything we were supposed to do in the West. Careers. A suburban house. The middle-class life on paper. But beneath all of it we were carrying the heavy, invisible luggage of systemic racism.
For Tony, a former police officer, it was the weight of constantly making himself smaller in public just to survive. For Ayo, it was the moment she instinctively told their young son not to touch anything in a store and realized she was already teaching him the restrictive survival playbook Black Americans carry everywhere they go.
"We looked at our boys and realized we could not keep raising them in an environment where we had to teach them a different set of rules just for a traffic stop or a trip to the store."
So we moved to Ghana. But we did it without a roadmap. We navigated the visa confusion, the land process, the banking gaps, and the cultural adjustment entirely on our own. We paid every school fee the hard way. We built Expat Life Ghana to be the bridge we needed and could not find.
Before Ghana, Hurricane Harvey destroyed our home in Houston. We had just rebuilt it. It was beautiful. The neighbor said it never floods in 35 years. Then it flooded. Tony drew a line on the wall: if the water hits this, we leave. The water hit the last step of the stairs.
Standing in the wreckage, we realized we had been working so hard to rebuild something that was never truly ours to begin with. The flood stripped away the faulty wiring. It forced us to ask a question we had been avoiding: is this the life we actually want?
The answer was no. The flood did not break us. It freed us. We sold what was left, packed our family into eight suitcases, and moved to Ghana for good. Every program, every summit, every product we have built since comes from that moment of total disruption and total clarity.
On March 31 and April 1, 2026, we brought 110 attendees together at The African Regent Hotel in Accra for two days that changed how families plan, prepare, and move. This is what that room produced.
"Your ancestors left through a door they were told had no return. I am asking you to walk back through it."
Honorable Ebi Bright, Mayor of Tema"The descendants of those who were taken are returning as architects seeking foundation."
Nana Kyere Agyemang, Office of the President"Done moving. D-U-N moving. We are finally home."

We built Expat Life Ghana to be the bridge we wished we had. The Relocation Summit, the BLAXIT Blueprint™ product suite, and the VIP Tour are all built from the same foundation: the exact truth of what we learned, and the exact connections it took us years to build.
Our community grows because we do not sell a sanitized, utopian fantasy of Africa. We show the reality and then hand you the tools to successfully build your life inside it.
Every product and program is built from the same place. The truth of our own move and the connections it took years to earn.
